ST. LOUIS — Those served by the non-profit Greater St. Louis Association for the Deaf, Inc. (GSLAD) now have easier access to its headquarters thanks to members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local One. IBEW Local One donated services to install an automatic door opener for the main entry to the GSLAD facility, located at 2190 Creve Coeur Mill Rd. in Maryland Heights, Mo. IBEW Local One partners with the St. Louis Chapter, National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) to form the Electrical Connection.
IBEW Local One and NECA-member Vision Electric teamed to install the opener which uses a wireless battery-powered paddle mounted on the building adjacent to its main entry. IBEW Business Representative John Kahrhoff, a licensed certified sign language interpreter, assisted in setting up the installation.
Founded in 1946, GSLAD promotes, develops and encourages community involvement for the deaf and hard of hearing community by providing social, athletic, education and charitable activities. Learn more at www.gslad.org.
