ST. LOUIS – Four Electrical Connection contractors are ranked among the nation’s top subcontractors. The national construction industry trade publication, Engineering News Record (ENR), ranked Sachs Electric Co., an ArchKey Solutions company, Guarantee Electrical Co., PayneCrest Electric, Inc. and Aschinger Electric Co. Inc. in its annual “Top 600 Specialty Contractors.”  All of the contractors are members of the St. Louis Chapter of the National Electrical Contractor Association (NECA) which partners with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1 to form the Electrical Connection.

Noting pandemic-driven challenges in 2020, ENR reported that “for the first time since the 2010 housing crisis, total revenue for ENR's Top 600 firms decreased—from $151.3 billion last year based on 2019 revenue to $145.9 billion this year based on 2020 revenue—a drop of 3.57%.” But it also reported a degree of resilience. “Learning to live with COVID-19 has netted innovative operational results for many firms as they navigate an unprecedented construction market that challenges players to risk more to move projects forward.” 

Some contractors reported finding a shortage of quality skilled and safe workers.  The Electrical Connection partnership has continued its $3 million annual investment in training to ensure the industry is supplied with a workforce proficient in electrical and communications technology.  At its IBEW/NECA Electrical Industry Training Center, it navigated the pandemic while fortifying its 78-course curriculum.  It even added teaching staff to its Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program (EVITP) to meet growing demands to expand the network of EV chargers nationally.

Among local contractors, Sachs, under the ArchKey banner, ranked 10th nationally among all electrical contractors and 23^rd among all specialty contractors. Guarantee Electric ranked 140^th, PayneCrest ranked 191^st and Aschinger ranked 427^th.   Meanwhile, Bell Electrical Contractors, Inc. is part of the MDU Construction Services Group, Inc. which ranked 10^th in the national rankings of all specialty contractors.
