ST. LOUIS — Just days before the St. Louis Rams offseason workout program begins, a STEM education workout will engage some of the region’s best and brightest students at Rams Park. The Electrical Connection is sponsoring the April 15, 2015, day-long program when the Rams will introduce 17 award-winning St. Charles County students to the many ways that STEM education is applied to operating the football franchise. The students were previously honored at the March 6, 2015 STEM Recognition Breakfast, an event hosted by Partners for Progress of Greater St. Charles and also sponsored by the Electrical Connection. The Electrical Connection is a partnership of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local One and the St. Louis Chapter, National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA).
At Rams Park, students will learn how science, technology, engineering and math skills are utilized in operating all facets of the franchise. That includes engineering needed for building operations including maintaining three outdoor practice fields and an indoor practice facility, the science of physical fitness programs, accounting and applications of technology in Rams broadcasts, technical presentations and even mobile apps.
“The IBEW/NECA partnership has long championed STEM education in its pacesetting training programs that produce the highly skilled and safe workforce needed for the growing complexities of electrical installations,” said Michael O’Keefe, vice president of sales for the Rams. “We are pleased to have them as our partners to show students others ways that STEM education drives business.”
Among the other Electrical Connection STEM initiatives are partnerships with the Saint Louis Science Center, Mathews-Dickey Boys & Girls Club, St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues, Saint Louis Football Club, University of Missouri system, Saint Louis University and more.
