ST. LOUIS – The Electrical Connection is saluting the six-year run of Saint Louis FC following the announcement on August 25, 2020 that the minor league franchise will cease operations after the 2020 season.

“Saint Louis FC energized the great momentum for soccer in St. Louis,” noted Frank Jacobs, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1 business manager.  “The Electrical Connection will continue supporting it with the new MLS franchise.”  Doug Martin, executive vice president, St. Louis Chapter, National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) concurred. “From youth clubs to adults playing pick-up games to soccer fans out and about, you saw the Saint Louis FC jersey everywhere,” said Martin.  “It truly validated our belief that soccer has always been in the hearts of St. Louisans.”

The Electrical Connection was among the first major supporters of Saint Louis FC when it launched in 2015.  With Its Electrical Connection logo emblazoned across the jersey, it generated greater awareness of its partnership between IBEW and NECA.

“Saint Louis FC was an incredible partnership for the Electrical Connection,” noted Jim Curran, executive vice president, Electrical Connection.  “In every aspect, it was a first class organization that reinvigorated the spirit of soccer for which St. Louis is so well known.  We have appreciated the leadership of Jim Kavanaugh, Tom Strunk, Patrick Barry and Jeremy Alumbaugh, all of whom had great passion for the game."  

The Electrical Connection also leveraged its Saint Louis FC partnership to fortify its community initiatives, including “Shop with a Cop.”  An annual “Christmas in July” soccer game was devoted to raising funds for the charitable law enforcement trust building program.  Proceeds supported “Shop with a Cop” programs in St. Francois County and Ferguson, Mo.
