One of the more unique education projects engaging our IBEW/NECA partners is the Green House Venture (GHV) in the Shaw neighborhood. NECA contractor BRK Electrical and its IBEW Local 1 workforce are part of the team building this science and nutrition education center.  GHV’s mission is “to educate, excite, and equip an inclusive population of elementary students to pursue a sustainable world through a hands-on program in bio-science and urban agriculture.” Learn more.

In addition to precision installation and repair skills, our IBEW/NECA partners excel at clearly explaining the nuances of electrical systems. Electrical & Data Service Co. ’s latest blog does so as it offers easy-to-understand details on GFCI receptacles. “GFCI receptacles allow power into the device, and the load terminal allows power out. Think of this like a bridge that can be raised and lowered to allow energy through. When the GFCI trips, the bridge raises and cuts the power to itself and any devices wired to the load terminal.” “If a GFCI reset restores the power, but later it continues to trip, you might have too many things plugged in, a faulty device plugged in, or the receptacle could need to be replaced. Try unplugging all devices, resetting the GFCI receptacle, and plugging in each device one by one to see if a specific device is causing the issue. If you see evidence of charring or overheating on the receptacle, cease any testing and call a professional electrician.” Learn more.
