Electrical Connection IBEW/NECA in the News

Intense planning is in the works for the Electrical Connection’s largest charitable endeavor – Rebuilding Together St. Louis.  This will be the 22nd year that the IBEW/NECA partnership will marshal a large workforce to provide free repairs and electrical upgrades to low-income, disabled, and elderly St. Louisans.  This month the volunteers are evaluating electrical needs in 15 homes in St. Louis city and county including the homes of three armed services veterans. On Saturday, April 12, 2025, an army of IBEW Local 1 electricians and electrical contractors will fan out from the IBEW Union Hall for a repair blitz. Since 2003, the Electrical Connection has donated more than $2.3 million in labor and materials to improve more than 600 homes for low-income, disabled, and elderly St. Louisans.  Last year, the St. Louis Business Journal saluted the IBEW/NECA Electrical Connection with an Innovation in Philanthropy Award.

Outlets that repeatedly cause circuit breakers to trip, discolored outlets or the smell of something burning, loose fitting plugs and more are all signs that old electrical outlets need to be replaced.  NECA contractor Grasser Electric is detailing warning signs of malfunctioning electric outlets.  “Your home’s electrical outlets silently power your daily life. These hardworking components keep your devices running, your lights glowing, and your appliances humming along. Regular outlet maintenance plays a crucial role in preventing electrical fires and ensuring your family’s safety.” Read Grasser’s tips on when to replace old outlets.
