Electrical Connection IBEW/NECA in the News

There are limitless possibilities when careers are launched at the IBEW/NECA Electrical Industry Training Center, the oldest labor department-certified electrical training program in the nation.  That was evident this week in a couple of news stories.  The St. Louis Labor Tribune heralded the launch of DeSoto-based Brooks Electric and Data Company by third-generation IBEW Local 1 member Dustin Brooks. The firm provides residential and light commercial electrical services. Multiple media outlets also spotlighted the succession of leadership at Kaiser Electric that originated from the training center and the ranks of IBEW Local 1.  Dennis Harter was named the new president of Kaiser Electric, one of St. Louis’ largest electrical contractors.  He succeeds Ken Naumann. Harter, Naumann and Mike Casey, Kaiser’s third shareholder, launched their careers with IBEW Local 1 and the training center.  Learn more.

What’s a work of art for our IBEW/NECA partners?  Well sometimes it’s a Building Information Modeling (BIM) plan that unfolds flawlessly during installation.  NECA contractor Schaeffer Electric showcased its artwork in pre-fab underground conduit. Its “BIM to reality comparison” on one of its projects demonstrates exacting design that delivered a 1200A service with a camlock section for a temporary generator, MTS, 480V distribution panel, and a 300kva transformer. Very impressive coordination from its design and prefabrication department, electricians, and project managers!

And a tip of the cap to Andrew Boerschig, facility solutions project manager at NECA contractor Guarantee Electrical Co.  He was recently honored with a member spotlight by the Missouri Gateway Green Building Council.
