It's that time of year again when homeowners break out and plug in holiday lights, space heaters and electric blankets – and in the process, sometimes create electrical hazards.  Think frayed electrical lights that can energize the rooftop gutter against which your metal ladder is resting. The ladder gets energized as do you 25 feet off the ground. Or think of the old and patched extension cords that you’ve squirreled away and plan on using to connect holiday lights or even worse – a space heater.  Our IBEW/NECA partners are again reminding residents to take great care to avoid winter electrical hazards.  Learn more.

NECA contractor MidStates Energy’s latest blog delves into the importance of pro-active maintenance of industrial electrical systems.  It details the use of Megger and High Potential (HiPot) tests to maintain safety and dependability in electrical systems. “Megger testing is a quick check-up for your electrical systems. It spots potential problems by measuring insulation strength, preventing short circuits and equipment damage, and keeping your team safe.
