What:

With the field of 1,600 flags fluttering in the backdrop, a weeklong series of solemn evening remembrances at the James J Eagan Civic Center in Florissant, Mo. will be held to honor those who have died for our country. Evening programs begin at 6:30 p.m. and conclude with taps at dusk. (See complete schedule of events) Highlights include: * Tuesday, May 24th - Lindenwood U. wind ensemble concert followed by a reading of American casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan. * Wednesday, May 25th - Five piece brass band concert, American Legion address, 13-point flag program and demonstration of proper flag retirement. * Thursday, May 26th - Korean War veterans program.

Those needing a flag to fly for Memorial Day weekend can purchase one with great significance during the week of events. The Electrical Connection and the Florissant Ambassadors will be offering the 1,600 eight-foot flagpoles and 3-foot-by-5-foot American flags now fluttering in the wind at the civic center soccer field where the remembrances are taking place. The flags were part of region's first ever "Healing Field" last year that honored the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attack.

The flags and flagpoles were provided by the Electrical Connection, which will offer them for $25 each. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The BackStoppers, the Florissant DARE program and other charities. The flags will be displayed through Memorial Day on Monday May 30th.

The Electrical Connection, a partnership of union electrical contractors and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local #1, donated $40,000 to make last year's Healing Field possible.
