ST. LOUIS — The long anticipated return of outdoor professional soccer to St. Louis has been an enormous success after the Saint Louis Football Club (FC) concluded its first season in the United Soccer League (USL) “The energy of the fans attending the games was just incredible,” noted Jim Curran, executive vice president of the Electrical Connection. “We want to thank the fans for their incredible support and thank Saint Louis FC and our fellow sponsors, Mercy Hospital and World Wide Technologies, for making the return of professional outdoor soccer to St. Louis a spectacular success!”

Saint Louis FC closed out its 28-game season with a rousing 2-1 win over Louisville in front of a record sellout crowd of 5,562 fans at World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, Mo. The team finished the season with a 8-11-9 record that included robust crowds for each home game.

“Word spread quickly at the start of the season that there’s a new dynamic sports team in town,” noted Frank Jacobs, business manager of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local One. “With our Electrical Connection logo emblazoned across Saint Louis FC jerseys, it was great way to show our support for the tradition of soccer in this community.” IBEW Local One partners with the St. Louis Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association to form the Electrical Connection.

“For our NECA contractors, our sponsorship of Saint Louis FC reinforced their commitment to St. Louis, especially in schools where soccer is big,” said Doug Martin, chief executive officer, St. Louis Chapter NECA.

Curran noted that the Electrical Connection will be working with Saint Louis FC to continue building support in the off season. “We will be looking for opportunities to engage Saint Louis FC with our other community partners to build on the success of its first season.” During the season, the Electrical Connection gave away free jerseys and bottle cozies.
