Students in IBEW/NECA Electrical Industry Training Center

For more than 75 years, IBEW/NECA has invested in training a diverse workforce to proficiently deliver ever-evolving complex electrical and communications needs – all at no taxpayer expense.

This free higher education requires no student loans and pays apprentices as they learn, including benefits. It all unfolds at the IBEW/NECA Electrical Industry Training Center at 2300 Hampton Avenue in St. Louis.

When launched in 1941, the IBEW/NECA Electrical Industry Training Center was the nation’s first registered electrical training program. Since then, it has trained more electricians and communication technicians than any education program in Missouri. The five-year, 10,000-hour training program is a time-tested model that includes:

  • A high-tech, career-building education with a 78-course curriculum producing pacesetting skills and safety essential for building projects supporting advanced manufacturing, the digital age, cybersecurity, voice/date/video, renewable and traditional forms of energy.
  • A mentoring program pairing skilled electricians/communication technicians with apprentices. It helps the training center sustain a 90+ percent graduation rate.
  • Effective outreach to ensure the training center’s excellent programs are available to all who are committed to a career in the electrical/communications industry.
  • Continuing education – free of charge – to advance career goals. In addition, the training center partners with area colleges to build a pathway to associate degrees.

Electrical Connection at a Career Fair In all, the Electrical Connection IBEW/NECA partnership invests $3 million annually in training. Every year, more than 400 apprentices are enrolled in four separate programs registered with U.S. Department of Labor. In addition, more than 700 skilled journey workers engaged in continuing education courses annually.
