Since 1999, the IBEW/NECA team has been honored more than 75 times for commercial/industrial excellence in construction by the Associated General Contractors (AGC) Keystone Awards. The projects honored reflect IBEW/NECA proficiencies in highly complex electrical installations that businesses require to compete in a global market place. It includes data centers and data service, manufacturing facilities, office buildings, healthcare, entertainment facilities, retail and institutional projects and all types of power services.
The IBEW/NECA team delivers its greatest value when brought in early in the planning phases. The partnership can leverage its experience and work with the project owner, contractor and designer to ensure installations produce optimal functionality. Among IBEW/NECA team’s proficiencies are:
- Programmable logic controllers
- Security systems
- High voltage power distribution
- Motor controls
- Fire alarm
- Industrial equipment & instrumentation
- Wireless and voice/data/video systems
- Renewable energy
- Uninterrupted power supply (UPS)
- Building automation
- Design/build & design/assist
Skill at this level ensures there are “no surprises” for the construction consumer and requires an intense dedication to training. The IBEW/NECA Electrical Industry Training Center in St. Louis has the region’s most rigorous apprenticeship program and produces the most skilled commercial electricians in Missouri. It requires completion of 10,000 hours of training in a five-year program. Apprentices complete 960 hours of classroom training and qualify for up to 55 college credits at several area colleges upon completion of the rigorous program. The training center is funded by the IBEW/NECA partnership at no cost to taxpayers and its curriculum is continuously updated to keep pace with the demands of the construction consumer.
