Curran detailed the Electrical Connection’s efforts to strengthen STEM initiatives through creative education partnerships in St. Louis with Radio Disney, the St. Louis Science Center and the Mathews- Dickey Boys’ and Girls’ Club. He also discussed the Electrical Connection’s sponsorship and mentoring of Missouri University of Science and Technology Solar Decathlon 2013 team, which is engaged in a global competition to build a marketable and efficient solar house.
Joining Curran on the “Youth and Energy” panel were Emily Vandivert and Aaron Enz of the Missouri University of Science and Technology solar decathlon team; Steve Rees, founder of Minddrive, a Kansas City-based nonprofit, after school program for at-risk high school students; and Ruth Douglas Miller, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at the Kansas Wind Application Center at Kansas State University.
Members of the Electrical Connection provide safe and reliable electrical construction, maintenance, repair and replacement services across Missouri, the nation and the world. It also plays an active role in developing Missouri’s energy future as a member of the Hawthorn Foundation; Missouri Economic Development Council; Missouri Energy Institute; Missouri Small Modular Reactor Readiness Committee; St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association (RCGA); St. Louis Regional Clean Cities Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Committee; Tech I-44 Advisory Board; Univerdant Sustainability Network, LLC; US Green Building Council-Missouri Gateway Chapter; and the Tech I-44 Advisory Board. In addition, it partners with a number of organizations to educate students and the public about energy issues including the St. Louis Cardinals; Radio Disney; Saint Louis Science Center; Mathews-Dickey Boys’ and Girls’ Club; and Missouri University Science & Technology (S&T).
