Electrical Connection IBEW/NECA in the News

NECA contractor Sachs Electric teamed with IBEW electricians to help deliver a 400,000-square-foot composite manufacturing facility for Boeing. The massive 40-foot-tall facility gives Boeing a competitive edge in the global market, allowing it to manufacture composite parts for both defense and commercial aircraft. As part of the MC Industrial’s design/build team, Sachs installed 14 load centers. Power is distributed through a 15-kilovolt (kV) power loop, connecting seven doubled-ended kVA unit substations set on concrete and steel mezzanines linked by catwalks. Sachs overcame the challenge of installation 18,000-pound transformers in the enclosed building. The facility also includes LED lighting, low voltage systems for lighting control, fire alarm and building maintenance and a 600-kilowatt generator that is EPA Tier 4 compliant. The project was spotlighted in the September/October issue of St. Louis Construction News & Review (CNR).

St. Louis CNR also spotlighted another IBEW/NECA project — the addition of a modern recreation center to the historic Francis Gymnasium at Washington University that dates to 1904. NECA contractors Guarantee Electric Co. and Schaeffer Electric both work on the project to create the new Gary M. Sumers Recreation Center. The new facility includes “a jogging track with sweeping views of Francis Field, state-of-the-art fitness equipment, three-court gymnasium, multipurpose rooms, spinning studio, sports medicine suite, hydrotherapy pools, team meeting rooms, and offices.” The project is expected to receive LEED gold and possibly platinum certification. ec-outdooraug2016

Finally, the Electrical Connection had a significant presence at the 2016 Midwest Energy Policy Conference on Oct. 4-5, 2016. Electrical Connection Executive Vice President Jim Curran provided vision of IBEW/NECA electrical and communications innovation and collaboration at the yearly conference hosted by the Missouri Energy Initiative, which sets Missouri’s energy policy. That vision was highlighted in an MEI video at the conference. In addition, the program book included an article that featured IBEW/NECA’s commitment to developing pacesetting skills and safety to serve all facets of the energy industry.
